About This Programme

The Caregiver Townhall, themed ;Recognising the invisible Backbone: Empowering Selangor’s Caregivers,” is a dedicated session under the Selangor Care International Summit 2025 (SICS2025). It honours the contributions of both formal and informal caregivers and highlights their role in shaping care ecosystems, strengthening individual wellbeing, and building community resilience. The Townhall provides an inclusive platform for shared storytelling, emotional support, and policy reflection.

Participation in the Townhall will be by invitation only.

To provide a platform for caregivers to be recognised, heard, and supported. The Townhall brings together government, NGOs, civil society, and caregivers themselves to co-create a stronger support ecosystem and policy framework for care workers in Malaysia.

Opening Remarks :

The session will begin with a welcome address that sets the stage for why caregivers matter in the broader health and social policy landscape. It introduces the purpose of the Townhall and highlights Selangor's leadership in building a care economy.

Townhall Session :

An open conversation where caregivers can share their realities, concerns, and aspirations. This interactive session connects individual experiences with broader state and national caregiving issues. It is a safe space to be heard and acknowledged.

Panel Sessions: Everyday Superheroes - Real Voices from the Frontlines :

Caregivers from various backgrounds share their personal caregiving journeys. The panel is a celebration of resilience, sacrifice, and love - from parents of PWD children to adult children caring for ageing parents. This session highlights lived experiences and the emotional dimensions of caregiving:

Fireside Chat : Caring for Yourself While You Care for Others

A gentle and powerful discussion around the emotional and mental toll of caregiving. This session provides strategies for self-care, resilience, and finding inner strength. It brings in professional and cultural perspectives on coping with burnout and isolation.
Panel : We See You - Practical Tools for Caregivers

This forward-looking session will explore the support structures currently in place— and what more needs to be done to better assist caregivers. It will highlight practical tools, services, and emerging policy innovations that help ease the caregiving burden.

Launch Segment :

This segment marks the joint unveiling of two strategic initiatives aimed at institutionalising long-term support for caregivers and accelerating the growth of the care economy in Selangor.

The Selangor Care Network is a state-driven digital and physical ecosystem to register, connect, and support formal and informal caregivers across the state
The MBPJ Care Economy Framework outlines Petaling Jaya’s commitment to embed care infrastructure, services, and social protection into local urban planning.
Signing on Strategic Partnership Agreement to Advance the Care Economy in Selangor between INCEIF University and the Selangor State Government to strengthen the care economy through joint research, policy innovation, and capacity building.
